The Robey
The Robey (also known as Northwest Tower or the Coyote Building) is a landmark Art Deco tower designed by Perkins, Chatten, and Hammond and completed in 1929. Newspaper headlines at the time spoke of the height and grandeur of the tower, proclaiming “the skyscraper leaves the Loop”. The building originally functioned as an office building for physicians and lawyers, and was once served with compressed air pipes for dentist offices.
Since 2017, The Robey has operated as a boutique hotel and event space. The tower serves as an icon and focal point of Wicker Park. As neighbors of the building, we’ve enjoyed brunch at Cafe Robey, brought visitors to the Up Room, and walked past the elaborate limestone façade countless times.
Where to stay
We’ve put together a few hotel groupings for you based on our wedding venue location – Wicker Park, Chicago. We recommend staying where you plan to spend the majority of your time.
Things to do
For our out of town family and friends, we want you to enjoy the city as locals. Here are some of our favorite spots to eat, drink, and explore in Chicago.
Our story
We met in March 2018 as students at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Our relationship evolved quickly as we navigated multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees, traveling, internships, a new puppy, a pandemic, and a move across the country in just the first two-and-a-half years.
Iceland, 2018
After knowing each other for just two months, we booked a spontaneous trip to Iceland. Jackson, half-joking but mostly serious, said, “You know, if we’re booking this, you can’t break up with me until we get back.” During the 828-mile road trip in a tiny camper van, we learned more about each other in seven days than we had in five months. Travel has been a mutual love and as we’ve travelled farther from home, we’ve only grown closer together. Neither of us could have predicted that Iceland would only be the beginning of our many future journeys.
We moved to Chicago in the summer of 2020 as Jackson accepted a job offer and Zeb started PA school. Surviving a global lockdown and a harsh winter in a 500 square foot studio apartment with two humans and one needy dog came with its own set challenges, mostly the lack of personal space. Despite everything, it turns out we really do like each other! In 2021, we bought our home in Wicker Park where we’ve made lasting friendships and countless memories.
We’re excited to share our neighborhood with you as we embark on this next chapter of our lives together.
